Elizabeth the 1st was one of the best and well known rulers of England.

She was born on September 7th 1533. Her father was King Henry VIII and her mother was Anne Boleyn. When she was three her father had her mother Anne Boleyn beheaded for birthing a girl (Elizabeth) instead of a boy. When Elizabeth's father died she was far from being the ruler. First in line was her half brother Edward VI. He and Elizabeth were raised as protestants, while her half sister Mary I, was raised as a roman catholic. When Edward died in 1553 at the age of 15, Mary took the throne. As soon as she was ruler she made catholicism the religion of the country. She imprisioned Elizabeth for 2 months for fear that she was plotting a plan with the protestants to take over the throne.

Finally in 1558 when Mary died it was Elizabeth's turn.

She was 25 and was an amazing ruler. She was ready for the challenges ahead, she knew English, Latin, Greek, French, and Italian and was well educated and had inherited the shrewdness, determination, and intelligence from her parents. When Elizabeth took the throne the country was divided by religion, and France and Spain wanted to take over England. Elizabeth gave her country hope, she reconciled England's problems with the other countries. Elizabeth gave her country 3 important gifts. 1) She gave them peace. 2) Reduced national debt of England in the first 15 years of ruling. 3) Her enthusiastic supports to the arts. Elizabeth had unique features she had red hair, and milky skin. She used bleaching lotion. She had her own personal scent (perfume). And as she grew older her makeup became thicker to cover up wrinkles and small pox scars.

She was an incredible queen. She was very strong and never married. Which frightened the protestants because if there wasn't a child of hers to take the throne they thought that the chatholics would take over. She ruled for 45 years and died in 1603, at the age of 60. When she died her half sister's protestant son took over. But no one would ever forget the "golden years" which Elizabeth The 1st, had ruled.
